06 Jun Sweets For Syria Success
On Thursday, May 25th over 150 Women for Progress members and guests found themselves at the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood surrounded by sweets, coffee and auction items. A night of desserts turned into much more when the final count came to over $10,000 raised for Syrian aid.
The objective of the night came from the fun
draising strategy called Syrian Supper Club. Syrian Supper Club hosts dinners to raise money for the Hands Up Foundation, an organization that allocates money directly to places of need in Syria.
The Equality For All Committee decided to take the event and make it their own, a strategy Syrian Supper Club itself encourages. This meant making the evening as local as possible, so proceeds were split between the Hands Up Foundation and a local organization for refugee aid and assistance: One World One Love.
One World One Love’s founder, Sally Bruno spoke at the event allowing attendees to learn more about how to get involved with the organization. Remarks were also made by WFP President Erin Chun and WFP Vice President and Equality For All co-chair, Sarah Derico.
Donations from It’s Greek To Me, Al Raouche, Sweet Love & Cake and Starbucks Paramus made the evening possible while local businesses stepped forward with fantastic auction items.
100% of the proceeds of the evening go to Hands Up Foundation and One World One Love.
