Feed the Frontline/Food for Families

As COVID-19 shuttered New Jersey businesses, forced residents to stay at home and brought our healthcare workers and first responders to the frontline, Women for Progress launched Feed the Frontline, a project to pay local restaurants to deliver meals to our healthcare heroes. What started as a project to feed a local ambulance corp. in Essex County grew to an initiative providing meals to frontline workers at five major hospitals in Essex and Bergen counties – Hackensack University Medical Center, St. Joes Regional Medical Center, Clara Maass Medical Center, Mountainside Hospital and East Orange General Hospital. Women for Progress matched funds for the project up to $5,000 and with over 300 individual donors, funding for the program quickly reached $35,000.

In ten weeks, the program provided almost 5,000 meals to hospitals and ambulance units and supported 10 local restaurants through the quarantine period. As food establishments began to reopen, Women for Progress has pivoted the program to provide food for New Jersey facing food insecurity in the aftermath of the coronavirus lockdowns and sudden record unemployment. Your continued donations will help support this new initiative with a match from Women for Progress up to $2,500.
